So excited to share with you our renovated home office / guest
room today! When we first moved into our house a few years ago, this space was
an unfinished 3-seasons room that was adjoining our living room through an
exterior sliding glass door—essentially, a closed in porch space with some
wicker furniture in it. With both of us
working from home (me, full time, and Matt more often than not finishing notes
after office hours), we started envisioning an office space. Something easily
accessible and close to where the kids play to still be able to keep an eye on
them and to stay a part of the family dynamic when wrapping up any work
obligations at the end of the day. We finally took the plunge and started construction through the
winter and into spring, which meant insulating the space, installing new
windows, new floors, and new doors both into the office and to the outside, and restoring
and painting the existing interior wood on the walls that we decided to keep
for a touch of character. Along the way we made the decision to also allow this
space to serve as a guest room by incorporating a sleeper sofa and tinted,
locking barn doors for privacy when needed. With the desk pushed against the
wall, the bed pulls out with plenty of room to spare, and gives us that much
extra room for out of town guests. It took us until now to furnish the space
how we wanted to, and we really tried to take our time in doing so, all the way
down to the lighting fixture which was the last piece to go in just a few days
ago. We wanted something comfortable, warm, and inviting, but still relatively
minimalistic, so the kids could bring their toys in and play along side
us. Obviously, they’ve basically moved in there and made it a Batcave, but taking
these pictures gave me a good enough reason to restore it to its grown-up condition. We are loving the way it all turned out, though I must admit, I still work from our bed about half of the time :) And, on that note, I'm off to finish up everything still outstanding from a work perspective before we can kick this weekend off. Happy Friday, everyone!
