One of my resolutions has been to read more (hopefully a book a month), so in honor of that, I thought I'd share some of my recent favorite reads as well as what's coming up next. Let me know if you've read any of these and what you thought about them! And if you have any other recommendations, feel free to share those, too!
My
Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward: This memoir was absolutely incredible and left me
completely speechless. Such a candid look at mental illness. I could not put
this down.
The
Nightingale: I really loved this book (as did the 35,000+ other people who
went right to Amazon to rate it 5-stars). A story about a WWII ridden France and
the power of two sisters.
The
Glass Castle: My all-time
favorite book. The newly released movie reignited my love for it, and if you
haven’t read it yet, this has to be next on your list.
Odd
Girl Out: My Extraordinary Autistic Life: This one is next in my queue. I don’t know if you can
tell, but I really like memoirs. I’m fascinated by what this one offers: an
extraordinary look into a woman’s life with autism and what living with that
diagnosis is like for her, day to day.
When
Breath Becomes Air: A true story and Pulitzer
Prize finalist about a young neurosurgeon who gets a stage IV lung cancer
diagnosis. I bought this for Matt, and he was moved to tears over and over
again. One of the reviews states, “I guarantee that finishing
this book and then forgetting about it is simply not an option.”
Before
I Go to Sleep: I keep seeing this psychological
thriller recommended everywhere, and I can’t wait to get to it.
7:
An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess: This book
will absolutely change your life. The author takes seven months,
identified seven areas of excess, and makes seven simple choices to fight back
against the modern-day diseases of greed, materialism, and overindulgence.
Note: there are religious undertones to this book, but these can be skimmed
past for those individuals not necessarily interested in this aspect.
